Alnico Speakers?
I have read recently that Alnico speakers naturally compress the signal near the peak of their limits. Is this really true? Who makes an Alnico 15"? Is there one out there that sounds good with Fender's?

Fender makes a 10" 45w (for $60), Eminence makes a 12" 15w (for $220), and finally, Standel makes a 12" and a 15" 30w (both are $425).
These are "speakers for purists", and as Jay already said, they won't handle much power. I had an old JBL with an Alnico magnet...beautiful tone, but I got tired of reconing it every couple of years.
I really wouldn't recommend one unless you're a very accomplished player.
p.s. "Weber" also makes several Alnico models, but I'm not sure of the prices. They have a very informative site...

Thanks for the replies. I think that they would be outstanding in studio situations with low watt tube heads. You could probably get more lows from these 12" speakers with a closed cabinet.
The band I play with on the road is on ear monitors, so volume needs to be low.
I looked up the Weber link and learned a lot, thanks.
