Lock-Down Postings...???

I'm really curious, why is it some threads get locked quickly, others not, when the topics and discussion all seem valid & interesting?
If it were in Off-Topic, I wouldn't be a bit surprised, but on technical stuff? What's up with that?

If you're talking about the John Lacey computer thread, Rich, it has been moved to the new Computer section.

If the originator of a post states that it can be closed then we close them. Otherwise they don't normally get closed, unless the post is moved to a more appropriate section, such as what Jon said about moving computer items to the new computer section.

Thanks! The computer catagory is a great idea, since sooner or later we will all be at the mercy of a rogue machine.
I'm convinced that the best knowledge is that gained from grizzled veterans, so I'm eager to hear your fixes/ideas.
