I watched her on the CMA awards.
I have been reprimanded for being negative on this forum. I'm sorry but here goes. My god what crap. That was the worst garbage I think I have ever seen. Country music? Holy cow. Ain't that how country-rock sounds today? Not really my kind of music, but I guess that that's what lots of youngsters prefer nowerdays, and they call it country too.
I know youngsters who are happy listen to both this kind of music and traditional country music, and they can't understand that Miranda is too noisy for my ears.

I don't normally respond on the negative, but I must admit, the out dated old rock and roll 'smash my guitar' thing was very pathetic...especially at the end of a very weak song in my opinion only...she sounds like Maines girl of the Dixie Chicks to me.[This message was edited by Bill Simmons on 08 November 2006 at 01:53 PM.]

I think of how my daddy picked scrap so I could get my first guitar, and that was the worst thing I could have seen, on a country music awards show. I think of all the kids out there right now, that would love to make music, but do not have a guitar. I just handed down to my godson(one week ago) my lil silvertone guitar.He said, I love it aunt Karen, and I will learn how to play someday like you. he is six years old. He, like myself, will learn what an instrument can do, and how happy it can make you to make beautiful music with it.
Besides,if they keep broadcasting JUNK like this kids will never learn what the value of an instrument is and Country and Western will Bleed to death faster then you can shake a stick at.

I watched a show with her on PBS and actually thought she was pretty good. She writes most of her stuff which is also an asset. I liked her recordings of "Kerosene" and "Me and Charley Talking" or whatever it was called. I came from the west coast where we were always a little more into rock in our country perfomances. But as for her performance one the CMA show, I liked her song OK, it wasn't the best I've heard from her, but it was passable and will probably sell well to the younger set. I didn't however like the guitar smashing thing! That looked like an Epiphone Casino as it looked like a pair of P-90s in it and those are great guitars. My other comment about her is her weight! She's put on some pounds since her videos were shot and she needs to shed 'em if she expects to make it in today's "Country?" music as how you look on video is sometimes even more important than the music you make.....JH in Va.

When she was on STAR , we really liked her and felt she showed some promise.

her performance on the awards show.......well..

I guess I'm a bit confused as to what exactly she is attempting to do..and what genre she wants to be part of..

Sorry Miranda, but you ain't no Country gal...

When my son was 4 years old he smashed
his little guitar and broke the neck on
it. When I asked him why he did that his
answer was Garth Brooks does it. Why not
sign the guitar and donate it to a worth
while cause.

Duh, I just noticed there are a couple of gals on the Forum, Karen and Theresa. I am not a steel player, I only got on here because Tom Morrell played on my CDs. I have really enjoyed the Forum and I have learned a lot from the Forumites. Speaking of guitars, I was taking lessons and just before my hand crapped out, I had learned to make a barred A 7th chord to die for. I took the half paid for guitar back to the store and then a few months later, my hand came back, the pain just went away. I may get back to the lessons.....

I think she very pretty and talented, has a super cool sounding voice, and belongs where she is , in the music scene. I dont like the guitar smashing either. But her YOUNG audience and fans ,probably think its OK. bob

I think if I was playing and some other steel players were on stage playing also and one of them tried to bust his steel, I would unscrew one of my steel back legs and wrap it around his flipping neck. I don't understand what point she was trying to make attempting to bust her guitar (which she even failed at that).

On the "Rock Star" show this summer, Dave Navarro basically ORDERED the contestants to smash some brand-new Les Paul guitars onstage, and I though, "What a spoiled, pathetic little piece of sh!t you really are" - I guess daddy must've bought him everything, huh? I remember unloading semitrucks full of watermelons and 50-lb. bags of bark and potting soil when I was 12 years old, saving up to buy a used Gibson Melody Maker. GRRRR! Oh well, at least he plays guitar like a L.A. "glam" sissyboy, too.

Three things:

1. I didn't watch the CMA show or listen to modern country or click on any links offered in the threads, knowing what to expect.

2. How many of us, at ML's age, would have done as directed, the stakes and opportunity as they were for her?

3. It's bad enough to be a spectator when one can participate, so why keep tuning in, beating ourselves with what we'll get? There are too many other, much more appropriate and worthy-of-our-time resources available, not the least of which are straight practice and playing.
