Garcia
Haven't seen any Jerry threads lately...thought I'd stir something up.
Just saw this CD come through the whse. It is titled Jerry Garcia plays [or sings?] Bob Dylan...or something like that. Don't know why, but I chuckled when I saw it.

Gee, Thanks Ron! <font size"0">oh, I bet you meant the other one

Yes, I'm sure it's a fine album, and I know Dylan is considered by many to be a top songwriter. It just struck me kinda funny, that's all. Kinda like Chad and Jeremy sings Peter and Gordon or something like that. No biggie...music is supposed to just be entertainment anyhoo.

Jerry-we got the humor and chuckle thing...
"and I know Dylan is considered by many to be a top songwriter."
You write this as if you aren't one of the many.
I have news for you-he has been a fine songwriter for a really long time.

A Steel Instrumental album of Jerry playing Dylan songs would be something! Jerry's intonation would capture Bob's vocal nuances.
Just doing my part to stir things up.
I have great respect for both of these legends.
[This message was edited by Joey Ace on 30 September 2006 at 07:33 AM.]

Hey Barry, it's been done. Check out the album "Dylan & The Dead".Maybe we could get them to sing a duet, ala Hanks Jr. & Sr. Ah, the miricles of modern technology!

Keep on pickin'!

Here's a interesting anecdote, and a true story about Garcia. In 1971 when I was sixteen I went into Manny's Music store here in New York city, and in the back of the store lo and behold, there was Jerry Garcia sitting behind a pedal steel guitar trying it out.I can still remember that he was wearing a pair of funny looking yellow shoes. One of the salespersons came up to him with a Mel Bay pedal steel for beginners book and said "You need this Jerry?". We all cracked up(Jerry too). I bought my first steel(a Shobud LDG) from Manny's years later.
It's now 2006 and Jerry is gone, and Manny's
no longer sells pedal steels. How times have changed!

Here's another Garcia anecdote I forgot to mention in my above post. My sister lives in Marin County (Larkspur) California, and Jerry used to live down the street from her. The local postman who is a good friend of my sisters was all excited because he had a package to deliver to Jerry. So he gets to the door with the package, rings the bell and Jerry opens the door.Jerry is all friendly and says" Hey man, come on in,let's do a doobie. To make a long story short, the poor guy was so lost when he got back out on the street that he couldn't even remember his daily mail route.

Mark Eaton, The guy really is the mailman in my sister's area of Larkspur(Madrone Ave), and it's a true story. His name is Dave Slopak, and he's still delivering the mail there.
[This message was edited by Mike Shefrin on 07 October 2006 at 09:25 AM.]

Ok, funny Jerry story. A local Chef here in St. Louis did a number of summer tours catering the food for the band and crew. Back in '89, the band, including a recently re-vitalized Jerry were all on a health kick, and Jimmy the Chef was doing an entirely vegetarian menu for the tour. He told me that one evening a very meat-starved Jerry pulled him aside and quietly said, "Hey Jimmy, ya got any brats".
I can't remember if Jimmy came thru with a bratwurst for Jerry or not, but hearing Jimmy quote Jerry saying that in that nasally voice was truly hilarious.
