It's of course mechanically possible to build a robot programmed to play a pedal steel guitar with pedals, knee levers, and even a sliding bar, etc.The feeling, sensitivity and emotions of steel playing by a human could not be duplicated by a machine no matter how refined the apparatus was.It still would be hilarious to see such a contraption.
[This message was edited by Mike Shefrin on 10 September 2006 at 09:04 PM.]

I jam with fellow who plays about as mechanical as that. He plays an acceptable tabbed piece; however, as soon as you take his tab book away from him, he is totally lost.

Maybe a steel guitar could be played by a mechanical devise but, a steel guitar is nothing without that human emotion in control of the picks and the bar.

Click on "Giant Steps", then "Watch Movie". On-screen count-up ends at 98.

Too mechanical, highly automated, sterile, and rigid. Kinda like a player piano, no "feeling"...
Neat robot though... maybe it could be taught to deal cards....

I could listen to the robot, but it was too strange to watch.

Without a groove behind it, it does sound pretty sterile, and without accompaniment you don't get a real feel for the tonal centre.

Compared to the animated version, the robot just sounds flat.
