Rigel mandolins closing shop

Post by Terry Edwards »

Rigel Mandolin Company is calling it quits. I liked their instruments and I hate to see any innovative instrument company go down.

Story Here

They did not give any reasons.

I was thinking about selling mine. Not any more.

I can't wait to hear the story behind this.
[This message was edited by Bruce Meyer on 18 August 2006 at 11:15 PM.]

I have 2, one with F holes and one with an oval hole. They are wonderful instruments, This is very sad news.

This has been a heartbreaking decision for us to have to make. It came about with blinding speed really, though the writing has been on the wall for quite some time. The market is, in our view, experiencing tremendous pressure from China and from uncertainties over the economy, gas-prices, the war...you name it and folks are concerned.
We've hoped for a turn-around, done everything in our power to keep going, but cannot. Thanks so much to you all for your support over the years. We're very proud of the instruments we've built and very sad that they will be built no longer.

Good-sounding, well-made mandolins. I remember wondering where Jimmy Gaudreau got that little bitty Stratocaster, and talking to him about it. One sad fact, is that most bluegrassers did not like the shape, or the look, of the Rigel mandolins, and by the time the F-style instruments were being built, it may have been too late.
Sorry to see 'em go.
