John Starling

Post by Brendan Mitchell »

I thought I saw a site that was talking about a new John Starling CD , one shared with some other guy but I can't find it . Was I just imagining it ? Does anyone know of any other solo records apart from Waiting on a Southern Train and Long Time Gone ?

Brendan,

Glad you brought this up, I'm a huge fan of John Starling! I've got the two records you mentioned, plus all of his stuff with The Seldom Scene. He also did a colaboration with Carl Jackson called Spring Training. That's a good CD if you can find it. He's currently working on a new record with his group "John Starling and Carolina". They've done a few shows with Emmy Lou, I believe. I think Mike Auldridge might be involved with the new record as well... I believe I read something on his site about it.

Respectfully,
David

The Carolina Star lineup is: John Starling, guitar; Tom Grey (original Seldom Scene bassist), bass; Jimmy Gaudreau, mandolin; Ricky Simpkins, fiddle, and Mike auldridge on dobro. They'll be touring with Emmylou Harris as her backup band, as well as playing some dates on their own.

I'll be looking forward to seeing them out here at the "Hardly Strictly Bluegrass" festival in San Francisco in October.

I've been a Mike Auldridge and Seldom Scene fan since the mid-seventies, but have never seen either/or live.

I can't even count how many times I have seen Emmylou, this should be agreat combination.

I've seen Carolina Star live twice in the DC area. It's always a joy to hear John Starling sing, not to mention having 2 of his old band mates with him. Mike Auldridge was playing 6 and 8 string dobro's, lapsteel and Weissenborn.

Emmylou is with the boys in Oct. $75 a ticket <sigh>.
