Value?

Post by Duane McKay »

We have this recently widowed friend that would like to sell A Fender Precesion Bass, It has a gold colored tag on it that says it is #215 of 500? It has gold colored keys, also hard case and manuals etc. Any help appreciated. jmckay@mwinet.net

It sounds like some kind of limited edition model. Need more info though.

Is there a Custom Shop marking on the neck plate? Any other description - including a serial number - on the peghead?

If you can post or email pictures I can probably pin it down, and if not I can enlist help of some friends at Fender. We need to figure out what it is before figuring how much it's worth. One piece of advice - do NOT take it to a music store to sell it - you'd get pennies on the dollar in most cases.

A picture would be very helpful in determining what kind of Precision bass this is and its value. The 215 of 500 indicates that it is a limited edition and probably came from the Fender custom shop.

Maybe a P Bass Lite? What shape is the backing plate used to hold the four neck bolts?

My suggestion is to have someone take the strings off and check the serial number under the neck or at the plate holding the neck to the body, then call Fender.com and find out what year it is and so forth..dont forget if its vintage but has been changed in any way i.e. refins, pick-ups, pick guards etc, this will diminish the value of the guitar.

I think Michael is right. The P-Bass Lite is the only one I know that has gold plated keys. If so it is made in Japan and worth about 350. If it is made in Mexico it is worth about 250 around my area. winston may
