DVD to CD ?

Post by Ed Altrichter »

Is there a device that enables one to record a DVD soundtrack so that it can be played on a portable CD player ?

If you have a DVD player, and a CD recorder, you can do it. Run a cable from the audio out terminals of the DVD player, to the audio in terminals on the back of the CD recorder. Usually, the cable you need wil have to have RCA type male connectors on each end. Then start the DVD Player, put the CD recorder in the record mode, and make the recording.

Ed,
You should be able to do what you want with "RIPvinyl" or any "what you hear is what you get" program. Do a search in computers for rip vinyl. Here's one.

In most cases you cannot just copy or rip the audio from commercial DVD's. You must play the DVD and if your sound card supports "what you hear" or "system mixer" and you have an audio recording program that will support that then you can play the DVD and recrod the audio on your PC.

This comes up frequently on the Dell users forum and the "Digital Rights Management" will, in many cases, internally block you from copying. You'll just have to try it.

If you don't have the "what you hear capability", the easiest thing is to just use the "line out" audio function and connect it to an external recorder and record the audio there. You can later connect the output of the recorder to the PC's "Line In" and "record" what audio you want to the hard drive and ultimately burn a CD.
