John Jorgenson Quintet

Post by Walter Stettner »

Just downloaded the latest video show from Woodsongs Oldtime Radio Hour, with the John Jorgenson Quintet - Awesome!!!!

It's is Gipsy Swing in the tradition of Django Reinhard and Stephane Grapelli at its best! If you have a highspeed connection and love all sorts of roots music, do yourself a favor and check out the long line of available shows - from Ralph Stanley to Odetta, from Billy Joe Shaver to Rhonda Vincent, from traditional folk and ethnic music to Bluegrass, it is all free to download!!!

Here's the link:

I had the great pleasure of working with Jon and his outstanding group here in PDX last year and it was a highlight of my season if not my career.

One amazing fact about these guys is that, with the exception of the violinist (who is actually a professional violinist in real life), every one of them has a "real job" not associated with the instruments that they play with Jon's band - even Jon himself plays a monster clarinet with this act!
[This message was edited by Dave Grafe on 10 February 2006 at 10:37 AM.]

Having the pleasure for knowing this guy personally I like to mention that he really is an outstanding musician.
Not only on regular guitar, electric and acoustic; in this case as a first class performer of gypsy jazz guitar music. He also plays sax, clarinette, bass, mando etc and even owns an Emmons S-10 p/p. Haven't seen it in real but he told me that had used it on one of Elton Johns cd.
And he has a great personality and is a really nice person.

Cheers,
Manfred
