A Charlie Brown Christmas

Post by Ray Minich »

So to save me the risk of purchasing the WRONG thing, can anyone tell me the correct name and possible source for that classic piece of piano work from this TV special. It's come to mean as much to me as all of the rest of the Christmas carols and music. Then maybe I can find the piano sheet music for my daughter.
What fabulous chord combinations, especially thru the interlude too...
Thanks all & Merry Christmas to ya too!

The disc I have in front of me is called "A Charlile Brown Christmas - Vince Guaraldi Trio"

It's got a bunch of traditional Christmas tunes arranged by Guaraldi and if you're thinking of the mid-to-uptempo slightly rockin' number with a couple of swing solo sections the tune is called "Linus and Lucy"

I wish I could find the music for an arrangement an old friend did of that song for solo nylon string guitar... solo sections and everything, nearly dead-on to the original. It was excellent... it's around here somewhere...

(oh, and Schroeder was the piano player... Linus just loved the blanket)<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Jon Bergh on 21 December 2005 at 05:38 PM.]</p></FONT><font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Jon Bergh on 21 December 2005 at 05:40 PM.]</p></FONT>

Thanks fellas, the Weather Channel had it as background music for the weather/precipitation charts last nite and I decided it was time to find it and buy it. I'm gonna be on a road trip to Harrisburg, Pa. in the next day so maybe I can find it at the Nitanny Mall or someplace in the Big City. I'm sure if I show the printout of this thread to salesperson they'll be able to tell me if they have it in their store.
Thanks again & warmest regards.

I always liked to watch Snoopy do his dance. My family raised beagles when I was a kid.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 22 December 2005 at 04:19 AM.]</p></FONT>

Vince Guaraldi was such an innovative musician with a truly unique sound, I was really dismayed by his passing. I suppose this is not relevant to this post, I just like to see his music preserved in any way.

I'll bet I'm not the only one who used to watch the Charlie Brown TV specials just for the music!

For those interested, I think the pianist George Winston does a real fine job of playing Vince Guaraldi's music. He's got great tone (I rarely say that about pianists!) and an obvious deep understanding of what he plays.

A small coincidence! Just yesterday I heard that tune on my local NPR station (WABE Atlanta), and decided to look up the recording. The rendition of "Christmastime Is Here" by pianist Michael Chertock is very well done and is avialable @ http://www.telarc.com/gscripts/title.asp?gsku=0485&mscssid=1B6GSNT8MT1M9LC5HLBWB8JX39XQ0RRE

Last week I downloaded this arrangement of "Linus & Lucy" from www.musicnotes.com for $4.65. I'd have to hear the recording again to say for sure, but this arrangement sounds pretty faithful to the original recording, though I'm not exactly sure about the transcription of the swinging solo part in mid-song.

This version of "Christmas Time Is Here" sounds pretty faithful to the recording, too. This downloadable sheet-music cost $4.65, too.

P.S.
The cool thing about www.musicnotes.com is that, prior to purchase/downloading, you can view the first page of the arrangement that you're interested in and also hear it played, to see if it's the right arrangement for you.

P.P.S.
Oops -- to preview, hear, and/or print/download the sheetmusic, you first need to download the Musicnotes.com plug-in, Sibelius Scorch. Looks like the latter links won't work unless your browser has the plug-in.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by John Pelz on 22 December 2005 at 09:19 PM.]</p></FONT>

A very interesting segment last nite on 20/20 about Vince Guaraldi, and how the song came into being.

Jon Bergh, You have to overlook my memory, sometime I have a senior moment "crs", etc, possibly memory inversion..But I was close, and in the right family,

Merry Christmas everybody..Bill

There is a piano folio out entitled "Charlie Brown's Greatest Hits," which features music from the Charlie Brown TV specials. I have a copy up at my shop, and I'll try to remember to post the contents, publisher and catalog number.

Did you catch Ricky Skaggs' daughter singing it on their family Christmas show? My favorite song and she did it justice.
