And they say these new kids ain't Country...

Post by Eric West »

Here's one of my "Alt NeoCountry" Faves.

I forget the name of the band..

Image

"Pepper"

Marky got with Sharon
And Sharon got Sharice
She was sharing Sharon's outlook
On the topic of disease

Mikey had a facial scar
And Bobby was a racist
They were all in love with dyin'
They were doing it in Texas

Tommy played piano
Like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas
He was dancing with a train

They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

I don't mind the sun sometimes
The images it shows
I can taste you on my lips
And smell you in my clothes

Cinnamon and sugary
And softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look
Through other people's eyes

Some will die in hot pursuit
In fiery auto crashes

Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes

Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain

That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

[Chorus]

Another Mikey took a knife
While arguing in traffic

Flipper died a natural death
He caught a nasty virus

Then there was the ever-present
Football player rapist

They were all in love with dyin'
They were doing it in Texas

Polly caught a bullet
But it only hit his leg

Well it should have been a better shot
And got him in the head

They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain

That was pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

[Chorus] (*Everybody)

Catchy tune, anyhow..

That's sure a long ways from "Act Naturally" or "Your Cheatin' Heart", isn't it?

Should be in the Top Ten on GAC,No worse than what's already there,In fact would be a great improvement.

Now you know why I prefer instrumental music.

You got that right Mike,99.9% of my collection is instrumental,The only vocal artist worth listening to for any lenght of time is DALE WATSON.I'm not talking about the great legends, but this top 20 &*^%$ thats out there today. what's so ludicrous is they have the audacity to label this S*% country.

My kind of lyric.
Zappa could have embraced this one.

I love instrumental music for sure,
and I DID like the BHS'rs back when.

But the lrics above while trenchant and clearly evocative, leave me cold.

I am down south here cause I found a guy who writes like this below.

Born Too Late
copywrite Rick Montambault

You say you're not with him right now because you're not meant to be
Did you ever think that right now you're meant to be with me

You know I'd never ask you to alter your position
but you said it yourself, this is a point of transition

This is not a competition, not a game to be won
but you know sometimes the moon eclipses the sun

Its a cycle, its not over babe, its barely just begun
or else, why am I even here at all

We both know that I was born to love you, but I was born a victim of fate
I was born too late,I was just born to love you too late

You've got history with him and that you cannot disown
But you and I are making history of our own

Someday you'll wake up to find that something has grown
through the cracks in that hard place inside
where once everything just died

Sometimes you look so sad like you don't know what to do
you say theres just not room enough in your heart for two

but look me in the eye and tell me, if thats true then how do you explain you and me?

He's a boy and I'm a man
Do you think that he can love you any more than I can?

Did you laugh all night with him and did you make love in the sand like with me?

Why I'm not the one in sole possession of your senses is a question I often contemplate
I was born too late,I was just born to love you too late

Maybe I'm just fooling myself o maybe its you who's fooling me
When you act like you love me but say that you don't
Either way I'm just a fool

We speak poetry in every glance and epics in each kiss
Every night is magic and every day is bliss

No sex, no drugs, no Rock and Roll could ever feel like this,
not for me

So if you're coming over leave your baggage at the door
Because theres room for you and me in here and not room for much more

Here's my love, just take it girl, because thats what love is for, can't you see

Have a little faith, have a little patience, just look at me I can demonstrate
I was born too late,I was just born to love you too late

Born too late to be the first to make you tremble
Born too late to be the first to make you cry
Born too late to be the one that all resemble
Born too late to watch your innocence die

Born too late to be the one I have to measure up too
Born too late to be the anchor in your past
Born too late to be the fire that you have to walk through
Born too late but I'm growing up fast

It's not classic country per se,
but we COULD play it as a classic country arrangment,
and it would still work.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 14 December 2005 at 06:29 AM.]

Ah yes, The Butthole Surfers, one of my favorite '90s groups. They made great parodies of '60s-'80s rock classics; but many times the young punkers who listened to them didn't recognize them as parodies. Now I wonder where my old Chinga Chavez LP is...

"Today I started loving you again.

I'm right back, where I'v really always been.

I got over you, just long enough,
to let my heartaches end,

then today, I started loving you again.

What a fool I was, to think I could get by,

with only these few million tears I cried.

I should've known the worst was yet to
come,
and that cryin' time, for me had just begun."

Now there's some LYRICS! God Bless Merle Haggard!

There's ol' Shimmy Shakin' Tina
She hails from Pasadena.
She always got a big smile on her face.
There's Hootch-y-kootchy Hattie, she comes from Cincinnati,
Yeah, there's always a party at Sam's Place.

uh huh!

Pretty far-fetched simile, ain't it? Image

"Catchy tune, anyhow.."

I jus' hope nobody else catches it! Bob Dylan has nothing to fear from that guy.
