This custom instrument was created for Pat Metheny in 1984. It's called a Pikasso 1. Made by Linda Manzer. I know I know. It's not a steel guitar, but this kind of crazy invention/innovation is what we all love as steel guitarists and I wanted to share this with you.

Can you imagine how many people it would take to play it?

It looks like it was set up to play on the single neck and the rest are for sympathetic vibrations.

So, how many Pikasso players does it take to change a light bulb?

Metheny used this instrument on his 1985 album "Mountain Memories - I Remember The Carter Family". Image

Looks like it's based on "Harp" guitars that were made early in the 20th century. Michael Hedges played and recorded on a few of them
[This message was edited by Richard Sevigny on 18 November 2005 at 02:07 PM.]

Anyone who can play a Pikasso to the max will be able to change four lightbulbs at once.

Just asking yourself "JI, or ET?" would drive you schizophrenic... a single guitar that needs it's very own roadie, what will they think of next.

Richard -- I haven't watched "The Last Waltz" for a while, but I here's a picture of Robbie playing something similar that night.
