Etta James on ACL

Post by Jay Fagerlie »

This week PBS is showing Etta James on Austin City Limits.
If you want to see a pro (been doin' it over 50 years)then you need to tune in.
I absolutely love her phrasing and the way she picks her notes.
Definately a living legend.
It's a must see.

That's a great concert. Etta has been one of my wife's strongest vocal influences. She can still belt it as well as ever.

And what a band! Her kids really put together a fine group of players for her.

Got to hear Etta in St. Louis a couple years ago, sat on the side of the stage next to the B3 (Dave Mathews was his name). She was awesome, and the B3 was SPECTACULAR. JP

Yeah, that's David K. Matthews on the B-3. What a great player! At one point he was holding a chord with one hand and moving a tone slider in and out in time to the music with the other. I'd never seen that technique before. Way cool.

Yeah and she does one heck of a version of "Almost Persuaded"
