Redd Valkaert's Telewacker - What Key?

Post by Billy Henderson »

I can't find the key Redd played this song in. Is he tuned up or down? Can't be tuned 440, can he?

It's E (on my CD player) I've had the pleasure of playing w/Redd a few times, I think we have done this song and I've never seen him tune down. He has a little korg tuner on his pedalboard. Redd lurks here, so maybe he will respond. Image

Like Dyke said; it IS in the Key of E and Redd never tunes his guitar up or down> it's regular guitar tuning.
I will say; that Redd's fingering and Positioning is not Regular and he can make the thinest string fretted on a guitar, sound like a big ole wound string..ah..ha.> So that alone, will fool you to where he may be at in any given position.
It's like trying to Tab Lloyd Green: just as soon as you think you know exactly how he played a phrase and where and what strings; you'll eventually find out(if Lloyd tells you) that it wasn't there at all and not even close to there...ah..ha.

Wow, thanks guys I would have lost some money on that one. I tune dead 440 and my E's don't sound like Redd's E's, guess that says something about his great playing, and my lack of it. Sometimes I think I have cotton stuffed in my ears!! Wish I could have the first couple of bars tabbed out. Or better yet what position does he start on? Thanks for the help.

Its in E and done on the second & third frets of the little E & B strings.

The melody for the head of the tune is pretty much in the first 3 to 5 frets.

Thanks for noticing, Redd

Gosh Redd you made my day! Thanks so much for the reply and the help, heck, I was all over the guitar trying to find it! I can tell you that is one good CD with good everything!! TELEWACKER just blew my mind! My favorite cut though is IT'S A MINOR THING. The steel playing on the CD is beyond awesome as is your playing! Thanks again.

Hi Redd,

Hope Austin's treating you well. Miss hearing you blistering your Tele on lower Broadway. Still liking the Harmonic Design pickups?
