Go see Alison Krauss & Union Station when they roll through/near your town! I saw them for the first time last Tuesday in Birmingham. The concert was absolutely hands-down the best I've ever been to. A week later and I'm still not over how great the musicianship and musicality of this gang of talented, professional, classy pickers was. One of these days I'd love to meet them, especially Alison to tell her how lovely her singing is , and Jerry to let him know how spectacular I think his reso-guit playing is . Don't suppose anyone here knows 'em.
So if you're still reading this and you haven't gone to their website to check if they're coming your way, what are you waiting for!? Do it! Then buy tickets! (If they're not sold out yet.)
I saw them in Norfolk, Va. about 6 or 7 months ago at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University for the Down From the Mountain Tour or something like that. The show also had the White, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and some other acts and it was all wonderful. There wasn't an electric instrument on the stage anywhere and the sound filled the room. The balance between instruments and vocals couldn't have been better. It's probably one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Jerry Douglas is truly a master of his instrument and plays with so much feeling on the slower things and then burns that Dobro up on the faster tunes. Allison gets more beautiful as she ages and her voice is like an angel. I enjoyed David Rawlings lead work on that little acoustic archtop with Gillian Welch. He's really got his own thing going! If they come back here again I'll definately go back as it's well worth it....JH in Va.
