Foxx was superb. It was like really watching Ray Charles on the screen. I read on the movoes web site that Foxx wore eye prostetics (I think Black contact lens) so he would really be blinded while shooting the film.
Interesting....
Anyone notice that the actor that portrayed the producer from Atlantic records was Booger in "Revenge of the Nerds"?
Awesome Movie!!

At the end of the movie when they showed clips of the real Ray, it was hard to distinguish between Jamie and Ray. Foxx did a superb job as Ray, so if you like Mr. Charles' music, see the movie, otherwise I don't think the average person would be interested.
Jamie Foxx did wear eye prosthetics not only for the shoot, but also for make-up and breaks. He went to the commissary "blind" to stay in character and develop the hightened senses a blind person has.
Interesting about the Sax, I didn't know about that.
I saw Ray Charles in New York in approx 1983 at Philharmonic Hall. The show was great, but I thought then, and the movie confirmed that Mr. Charles, while gifted was probably not the easiest person to work with/for as he seemed very compulsive and insistent that things be done his way.
Right-on for Booger, he rocks!

My older brother introduced me to Ray's music when I was still a pre-teen. The Night Time is the Right Time, has always been my fave. Ditto about the pix at the end. It took me a minute to realize that I was looking at the real Ray. The movie was 2 and 1/2 hours long and I thought it ended too soon. Ditto on that Oscar.

It was a great movie!
If you'd like a unique perspective on some of the early recording Ray did, rent or buy this DVD - you won't be sorry. The story of Tom Dowd (recording engineer in the Ray movie) is facinating. He recorded many of the greats!
