Anita Carter

Post by Walter Stettner »

Just wanted to let you know that Bear Family Records has released a beautiful box set (7 CDs) by Anita Carter, one of the prettiest voices in music ever. The box contains all her records starting in 1950. Lots of Steel on it (Jerry Byrd, Don Davis - who was her husband twice! - Billy Robinson and Pete Drake). It also contains the duet recordings she did with Hank Snow and Waylon Jennings.

Man, that lady could sing!

Indeed,

Anita had one of the sweetest most unique voices I have ever heard. I know of no other who had that incredible tenor timbre in her voice and it often was spine tingling.

May Jesus rest her dear soul,

Anita also recorded,on RCA,w/ a trio, called, " 'Nita,Rita,& Ruby". Rita was Rita Robbins,(what ever happened to her?) & Ruby was Ruby Wells, daughter of Kitty. The trio had a very short-lived career.

Anita Carter was the best female voice to ever come out of Nashville or anyplace else for that matter.

Yes, Bill, Chet Atkins played on almost all of her early recordings, so there's lots of Chet to hear on these CDs! Image
