A feel the angina comin' on.
Yes driving nails in the coffin of country.
I've played for Cloggers in huge family groups, nice and respectful dancers.
General dancers swinging and hugging and having a fine time with the music and their mate,
same thing : generaly nice and respectful people.
I've played for Line Dancers and rarely been treated so poorly by sober people...
Never more, never more said the Raven.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 16 April 2004 at 07:05 AM.]

Dr. Donna here to address the issues brought up by David.I've played for Line Dancers and rarely been treated so poorly by sober people...
(clear throat) . . . now, let's look at the dynamics of those participating in the dance we call “Line Dancing” and ask ourselves a few questions.
Who line dances?
People who do not have a partner to dance with.
People who have a partner who has chosen to dance with someone else.
People who are there with their band-member spouse to show support.
People who do not drink much, since they have to stay in a line and “on task”.
People who like to be bossed around: (i.e. you’re told WHICH music to line dance to – what steps/moves to make to the song.)
People who like to be intimidated: (i.e. 52 yr. Old woman dances next to 23 yr. Old girl. The part comes around where you do the shoulder dip thingy twice, then cross and change. Older woman looks like she is digging up a dead rose bush. Young girl looks like she’s pole dancing. No props either! And NO-FAIR!
I mean look at it this way –
You’re in a club. You’re not drinking when everyone else usually is. You have no one to dance with. You’ve been wanting to dance, but they just keep playing country ballads. You love country ballads, but they make you want to dance. You can’t because you have no partner to dance with. You’re NOT drinking, so no one will ask you to dance because you look like you might be a security guard sitting there. They finally get around to doing a song and someone says, “Ok, all you rejects out there who have nobody to dance with . . . have AT IT! But, we’re going to put Barbara and Bobby out there to show you just how to take every step. And you’re going to line up side by side with a pole dancer between every gardener. HAVE FUN!

LOL good one Donna.
But two more catagories :
Those there with a Souce for a Spouce : too drunk to dance.
And those who LIKE to boss others around... often resembling gardeners...
ooh, I feel a tick comin' on, eek!
I have seen the line dancers literaly force regualar dancers from the floor, because it messes with their square.
I am sure a few of the Pole Dancer types are out there so they don't get tempted to Pole Axe some dude who don't take no for an answer : Saftey in Numbers
Ackey Breakey Heart seems to have been the all time fav line dance tune,
but if I never heard it again it would be twice too soon.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 16 April 2004 at 10:10 AM.]

We only do a couple a night at 2 places - the rest stay off the floor when it happens - But - I think I see the problem Donna - It's that drankin' thang - The line dancers that I see, do drink!!!!!
We do songs like Achy Breaky (Groan) Pink Cadilac and Kansas city [It works pretty good at the same tempo as the others]

Ron Petersen &
The Keep'n Tyme Band
Mullen Universal 12 - 1975 Session 400

Thank you ...Now that we have a list of songs that are sure to bring out those rude
"get off the floor were useing it to line dance" crowd, please be sure and NEVER play these songs again!Line dancing is to Country music, what Disco was to pop music
and I dont think any of us want to re-live any of those days! Dancing is a lot of fun and I enjoy dancing myself, but as I stated in another thread,I have had(on more than one occasion)people walk up to couples that were "regular"dancing and said "get off of the floor were going to "line dance"! Can you imagine!! We refused to play untill the
club owner told them "share the floor or out the door!"Sorry for the rant, its just the way I feel. Were playing for people to dance..and drink..and spend money..so we will get paid...make no mistake we all know our place, but many time line dancers think that they are the only people who want to dance...not so..

I hate line dancers..they can be rude, a pain in the a$$..I have delt with them a long time, and what really makes me mad, most of them think there danceing to the words, they learn a dance to "A" song, and they think
it"s the only song you can do the dance too... gee, whats a beat??? ??? something you dance too?? I guess not.. If you are a line dancer and understand you dance to a beat, then don't get butt hurt over this post!!other ~ than that, well.....there OK.. besides I always liked Country Slam Dancing instead...

Better off at Jack LaLaine.
And the dangdest thang, these people seem to think the're REALLY COOl
doing this too.
P. T. Barnum hello where is youze!!
I think most line dancers need a good turn in the Mosh Pit with a fast Joe Jackson song.
Or maybe that neo post punk classic
Twist and Crawl, Twist and Crawl, Twist and Crawl.

I remember when 'Achey Breaky Heart' came out..heard it first on TNN and I said to our singer, "we gotta learn this, it's going to be huge". Well it wasn't a month till we rued the day we ever put it in our line-up because our patrons would practically riot if we didn't do the song at least every 45 minutes and it soon got to be real monkey on our backs. If you're out there Billy Ray, I still haven't quite forgiven you for that song.
[This message was edited by Bill Miller on 17 April 2004 at 09:02 AM.]

[This message was edited by Bill Miller on 17 April 2004 at 11:51 AM.]
