J. Byrd or D. Helms on Hank's "Honky Tonkin'"?

Post by John Pelz »

Can somebody please tell a green non-pedal player who played on Hank Sr.'s "Honky Tonkin'"-- Jerry Byrd or Don Helms? What tuning is this song in? C6, I imagine-- if so, can anyone tell me which specific C6 tuning was used? (If it wasn't C6, then I have a napkin handy to wipe the egg from my face.) Thanks!

That was Jerry Byrd. He used a 6 string pre-war bakelite Rick. Probably a '36 or '37 model.

The tuning was:

<font face="monospace" size="3"><pre>
E
C
A
G
E
C</pre></font>

If you will click on the following link, I recently posted all the songs Jerry Byrd played on for Hank Williams. You may find the entire thread interesting.

Thank you very much, Carl. Looks like I should've paid a little more attention the first time around, eh? Image
