I'm trying to win a bet! Does anyone know who had the original hit with "Sonny".

One of the oldest scams in the record bidness is to cut an album of cover tunes, generally for low-price bins or TV ads, using studio musicians and calling the *band* "The Original Artists." Source of much disappointment for consumers, but the cheapo label owners who have their money love the concept.

Along those lines, Herb, I don't know how many times I've grabbed a record from the used bins and thought, "Wow!, The Greatest Hits of Hank Williams!" only to keep reading, in very small letters on the back of the jacket "as performed by the Living Strings" aaarrrggghhhh!!!!

Carter,

That's true, I've been a victim several times. Once I bought a record from a sales list called "Tex Williams Sings Hank Williams", thought I discovered a scarce and unusual record of Tex, but the Tex turned out to somebody else. The record wasn't that bad, but didn't meet my expectations! Image
