Oh Oh. Chas, there are a few show tunes that I like. Should I climb back in the closet?
I actually like lot's of different types of music. Sometimes I can't even listen to good ole country. Depends on my moods. I really liked Shania when she first came out and then I burned out on her. Wouldn't listen to her for years. I have a six disc cd player here at home, and for the past 2 or 3 months, 2 of the six are constantly Shania (1 is constantly Tracy Lawrence and the other 3 vary).

Also, if anyone doesn't think that Shania
hasn't paid her dues, they've never spent any time in Timmins during blackfly season.
I was born about 8 to 10 miles outside of Timmins at Porcupine Ont.
Another thing, she doesn't sing with a phoney southern accent like so many Nashville clones do.
(and that includes the ones from Canada)
[This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 10 November 2003 at 11:44 PM.]

[This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 10 November 2003 at 11:45 PM.]

I have to admit at first I had the "not country enough" attitude. She grew on me,I not only like her music (some of it anyway)I admire the girl..She seems like a good ,down to earth person who worked hard for what she got..She seems to mix her music to fit her fans and she ain't hard on the eyes either.

I have a lot of respect for Shania. She's a very good performer and can write a musical hook to beat the band. Plus she seems very sincere and likable, no hidden agenda. I have the "Come On Over" CD, though I must admit that after a while I found the glassy production a bit much for me. Still, her studio work is very skillfully done. She knows her audience.
Along the lines of the Shania/Tim McGraw/etc type of discussions, I find that I gravitate to particular songs largely because of the music itself and not necessarily because of the artist (though I have favorites such as Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson). If the song catches me, then it does, whether the artist is "new country", old country, real country, pop country, and so forth. For example, I like Kenny Chesney's "A Lot Of Things Different", Tim McGraw's "My Next 30 Years", Wynona's "I Saw The Light", along with Vern Gosdin's "Chiseled In Stone" and Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again."
I guess my taste is eclectic. Or maybe I'm just confused.

Even though by age I belong in the old school, Shania comes across to me in a positive way. I tend to believe that she is a genuine musician who has earned her place in the current musical culture. (The fact that I have two grand-daughters near her age has nothing to do with my opinion).

There are two ages of people- those under 40 and those over 40. This explains Gene's confusion.

Actually, I think she is a good musician... and I don't think Mutt would've joined forces with her had she not been. Sure, she's pretty, but in the circles Mutt has moved in for years pretty girls grow on trees.
[This message was edited by Rick McDuffie on 11 November 2003 at 03:06 PM.]

Theresa and I think a lot alike - and I, too very much like her music, lyrics and musical savvy. She represents women in an honorable way. Her writing is exceptional. Her voice is awesome, and she seems to have an unspoken respect for mankind. She is a great role model to our young women. And I proudly place her next to Loretta Lynn in my favorite top 5 female artists!

The lady has a nice voice a great... achhmm, ah "figure",
an a great rock band with strong country influences.
I saw the Super Bowl shoiw and it was totally pro and fun. I like her.
It's OK to like Show Tunes... if you're playing JAZZ.
If your doing Caberet.. well that's bordeline.
And also if you're not opening for the Dualing Bankheads.

Myron's comment
Seriously, Shania CAN (and does)do country. Anyone who disagrees with that simply hasn't heard much of her work. (Of course, I'm not speaking of what the radio stations play.)
By the way, my favorite country song is Grand Tour - Aaron Neville's version! Seriously. When Aaron sings country, he IS country. Same with Shania.
[This message was edited by Donna Dodd on 14 November 2003 at 06:32 PM.]

[This message was edited by Donna Dodd on 14 November 2003 at 06:36 PM.]

My comment. . . about as much of a Country comparison to Loretta Lynn as Stonewall Jackson is to Elvis. Anyone who places her now music into a country comparison truly does not know the difference.
Myron, My statement wasn't a comparison at all. They are simply at the top of my favorite female category - as is Phoebe Snow. Can't you just hear her doing The Pill! And I proudly place her next to Loretta Lynn in my favorite top 5 female artists!
