Dorothy (Mrs. "Tex") Ritter Passes

Post by Smiley Roberts »

Dorothy Ritter, wife of Tex, John's mom, dies

From Tennessean music writer Peter Cooper:

Dorothy Ritter, the wife of country music star (and former Country Music Association President) Tex Ritter and the mother of actor John Ritter, passed away last week in California.

''She was one of the most vivacious people I've ever met in my life,'' said country music broadcast icon Ralph Emery, who worked as co-host with Tex on a radio show for years. ''I always said that if I owned a public relations firm, she'd be my first hire.''

Mrs. Ritter actually did work in PR, for the Grand Ole Opry and others, but most of her contributions to country music were unofficial and unpaid. She was an actress who met her husband on a movie set, and she was energetic in raising money for cerebral palsy research (son Tom, a lawyer, has cerebral palsy). Tex's position at the CMA made Mrs. Ritter a CMA first lady of sorts, and she was a regular presence at various country music events.

''She loved to talk, and she had a lot to say,'' said former CMA Executive Director Jo Walker-Meador. ''She was a wonderful ambassador for country music.''

A funeral is set for tomorrow in her hometown of Prescott, Ariz., and Mrs. Ritter will be buried near her parents.

Condolences to her family of course.
I guess Johns untimely passing a s hort time ago knocked the wind out of her.
I bet she was a real piece of work when in full fettle.
