I was just wondering .
I see no more posting on the GOP since it left CMT.
I don't get it on Direct TV. It looks like they are killing Grand Old Opry on TV by taking it off all the regular channels.
Sometimes I didn't like what was on so I turned it off, but I still miss it when it was good.........al
I get it on GAC. In my opinion, the hostess is still lame. But on the other hand, they replay it 4 more times during the week if you miss it Saturday night!
Like Bill, I'm getting it on GAC via my local cable.
It's run Sat. night around 10:00PM Central time and again at midnight, plus other times thru the week.
They've had some off nights, but that's gonna happen.
Need to write GAC and thank them for adding the Opry to their programming.
I still liked the Opry-Live better when it was all on stage, except for the (too) occassional commercial-breaks! I was watching something on TV today in which the entire final 10 mins. was only one commercial after another, and then the news came on! [beginning with a Promo explaining what was coming up on the news!]
Dish network just picked up GAC and a few more cable companies did also. If enough people call or write to ask cable and satellite TV providers to carry GAC and drop CMT they will. Get GAC
I like the show better on GAC.
I enjoy Nan she seems more in tune with the artist. Nan's a singer, worked for George Strait and is married to a musician.
Harold Hensley is shown every week. It's just better. JMO
Call your cable company and request GAC!
Theresa, I'm with you. It's better since GAC took it over. I though last night was very good. The human interest stories don't hurt the show. Even the videoing appears to have some thought in it which I wasn't sure about when it was on CMT.
The stage at the Ryman is small and doesn't allow for as many good shots, but that's part of the show.
I hope it stays on for a long time.
I enjoyed the Opry a few years ago. It was a joy to sit and watch Weldon play. He was almost seen on a regular basis considering where he sit. Now the Opry has changed with so much of the New Country Music. It is a disgrace to have such a great steel player as Tommy White and never hear him on the televised part. I understand he plays a lot when the Opry is not on the air. But I cannot hear it or see it when it is not on television. The producers and people in charge could care less about all of us steel players. They are after one thing and that is the almighty dollar IMHO. Now I have found something else to watch to satisfy me during the Opry time slot. I have always wanted to go and see it live but I think I probably would not enjoy it considering how the style of music has changed. I prefer the more traditional country but they are not interested in what I prefer. The amazing thing to me is the Opry is always sold out. I am sure that is all they are worried about, filling the seats and the money.
Leigh,
Yes, I stand corrected. But atleast the Opry was picked up by GAC. I say GREAT!
If you don't watch because you don't like change or for whatever reason. You aren't helping the older or newer artist that are still trying to carry on.
Theresa.
I dont watch the Opry anymore because I dont get the network. I have the Dish Network, and to add that channel, I would have to get the whole package that It's in.
I think change is good, but not at the expense of the traditional. Country music has been constantly changing over the years, but it stayed country. I dont think that is the case now. JMHO. And there are some new artists that I think are very good, and are singing country music. My main complaint is the powers that be wont admit that some of the music on the Opry these days is not country. I cant help it. Thats how I feel. ( Good song title)
I havn't seen the Opry on GAC yet, but I will say, GAC gives you more music than CMT. The Classic Country with Bill Cody is a good show. I like On The Edge of country(I think that's the name)is also good.
I checked it out Saturday for the first time since the move to GAC. GAC replaced CMT on your cable system a few years ago and I never saw the CMT format.
I thought it was a pretty good presentation, despite my dismay at the current state of "country" music. I enjoyed seeing it from The Ryaman again too.

Chris,
I agree!
Lori Ann Crook has a cooking show with artist and musicians. Video's are shown instead of commericals. Nice stuff on GAC!
[This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 10 November 2003 at 06:51 AM.]

I feel fortunate that I can still see the Grand Ole Opry; I may gripe about some of the performances now and then; I prefer the more traditional country music. But as long as I can either listen to, or watch the opry, I'll contineue to do so. Don't know if it's just my imagination, but it seems to me that GAC sort of leans toward the more traditional country; they do have that show with Bill Cody. And I do think that Nan does a better job of hosting than Kattie Cook did; she seems to be more enthusiastic about what she's doing. I get GAC on satelite; I have the "full view" system; "4dtv." I'm under the impression that GAC is carried on the Dish Network. But maybe not on Ddirect TV. Not sure about that one. Havn't seen this past week's show as yet. Will most likely see it sometime today as I have it taped.
