The late great Dorsey Burnette did some country recordings, he had a song that made reference to "me and Bob Wills" or "Bob Wills and me" any one know of it?

yep, that is "bob, all the playboys, and me", recorded for capitol as i recall, in the mid 70s. i don't think it ever made it to LP and was only on a 45 rpm.

he was a helluva singer and i am grateful i got to see him once in tucson about 30 years ago. "hey, little one" still knocks me out every time i hear it.

I've read bits and pieces that allude to him leading the Palomino Club band at one point, supposedly the mid 1960s, but that could just mean he did the Monday nights for a time.
There's also reference to him hanging with Delaney Bramlett and Johnny Paycheck at said nightclub, Delaney was the bass player there for a time, and man.. depsite what people say about Paycheck playing for George Jones between 1962-1966, he was on and off again so often and he played all over the scene, Vegas, Nashville and Hollywood during this period.

He recorded for a Motown Records country subsiduary in around 1963-64, but that label folded and Motwon didn't get into the country game in a serious way until the mid 1970s.

I've heard of him using steel and orchestral stuff in the late 1960s, once again, no real details.

Dorsey's 1970s records really deserve a reissue as well, he cut some fine records for Capitol as mentioned here.

I recall a hit he had called "In The Spring The Roses Always Turn Red"... but not if you don't have someplace to lay your weary head. Now my woman she don't cry anymore...she got used to dusty highways, ragged clothes and livin' poor...

Seems like that was back in the 70's.
