Paraphrasing from the KLRU.org website, "KLRU cannot legally make copies of programs they acquire for their schedule, they only have rights to broadcast.
Due to agreements with PBS and the American Federation of Musicians, KLRU, the producer of A.C.L., cannot release tapes of most of the performances in the A.C.L. series.
They have however some compilations that are available when you become a member."

My cable provider does not carry CMT, but I read somewhere that CMT runs a program called Best Of Austin City Limits which airs weekly and you can ck. the CMT website for times and artists, unless all this has changed recently.

PBS used to sell copies of the shows, but stopped the practice several years ago. Many of the best shows were aired under limited licenses, and can no longer be shown because the rights have expired.

Those shows are, effectively, lost forever.

Short of finding what you want at amazon.com, post exactly what show you are interested in here on the Forum, and perhaps someone will be able to help.

Although I knew that they don't sell copies of shows, the limited licensing thing regarding the airing of old shows is new to me. What a drag! What a collection they are sitting on. I sure hope that someone with a strong will, a good heart (and a good lawyer) can work something out that satisfies all parties and exploits none. I had a vhs of a full hour of Hag, circa "Big City" that has disintegrated into nothing.

I would like to have a copy of an old Texas Playboy reunion doing a tribute to Bob Wills that was aired on ACL a year or two before or after 1985. There was a great impersonation of Bob Wills done by Keith Coleman which in itself is worth the price of the tape. Johnny Gimble, Leon McAuliffe, Elden Shamblin, Leon Rausch, Smoky Dacus and Al Strickland were still alive and also performed on this show. I did not own a VCR at the time so I couldn't record it. To my knowledge, this show was never repeated. Can anyone help me with this item, please? Thanks...

Back in the 80's a local non-profit radio station (I think it was a school station) used to simucast ACL on their FM station. I taped a number of the audio broadcasts. I got them packratted away somewhere. I do recall that one that I have is a Waylon Jennings - @1985.

That station gave up on the simucasts in about 1988. I met the program director at the time and he said it got to expensive to purchase the rights and simucast the show. A real lost to ACL buffs at the time.
