Nick,

Thank you for sharing the link to this wonderful article...I saved it and will print out a hard copy.
I have a number if Les Paul tapes and CD's and a 1952 Gibson Les Paul that I "cut my musical teeth" on.
Thanks again!

SUPER GREAT Article!!!

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to view it.

It's interesting to note how CREATIVITY has such drawing power. Rickenbacher and Gibson both gave up their relative positions to chase the dream of Leo Fender.

Les Paul strode where others feared to go and WON big time! Are today's steel players true inovators or merely clones?

Ha! I should have known that you and Les Paul would be acquainted, Jody... I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the two of you get together!
Get back to working on that book! We're getting verrrrry impatient out here, waiting for it!
All the best to you & Marilyn.

OK Nick, heres one from the book.

Les had something he thought Fender would be interested in marketing. It was a gadget that he (Les) invented.

I took a CBS Fender President to Mahwah NJ to meet Les. When we arrived Les was "hey baby" whats happening?? The CBS president was very proper,he was a Doctor Suess kind of guy,you know "SQUARE" but very nice.

We spoke a bit and Les said Hey pops wanna drink? the President said, well I'll have a glass of water,,Les said Water,,hell that'l make you want to pee Image I almost fell of the sofa as the President was embarssed.

He then said a little while later, can I please use your rest room and Les said,,you
mean the "Crapper"..I was holding back as my eyes were filling up with tears from laughter. I had to go into the bathroom to control my laughing.

The Pres then went into the tiolet to take care of business,,when he came out Les said.
Hey Mr. So & So..your stable is open, the President looked at me like Image and said "WHAT?? Les said your stable door is open Man,is that where you keep your horse???? and he laughed like hell. He said man you CBS guys are real pissers.

When we left and were driving into Manhattan for the Pres to go to his hotel at the Waldorf he said to me,,Jody,,he's a fine musician but is he always this way..I said NO
only when someone leaves their fly open. Image

There is more to this story my friend and Its a real "Gas"..Meanwhile Via Condios and
How High The Fly...I mean moon Image If any of you get to see Les ,,tell him Jody & Andy
Nelson (now deceased) still love him.

Im a Fool To Care.
Edited I had to use the Mens Room. Image

Man, that is a great guy! I wrote my final paper for my Bachelor's degree on Les Paul. I was a music major in college and had a concentration in sound recording. I wrote my final paper on him and my professors were SUPER supportive about it. Most students wrote their final paper on some other "classical" guy and I picked the man that invented it all! He is my hero as a musician and inventor.

Jody,
Please correct me if I'm wrong,I heard that LP used to record in a tile bathroom to get his first reverb effect, also was one of the first to do voiceover for vocals and guitar..

Doyle Dykes bought a black LP and took it to the club and played with Les and for him on some of the tunes that Les and Chet Atkins did on their two albums and it was a great collaboration that I wish had been recorded.
