Greg Trooper is Awesome!

Post by Wayne Carver »

He draws the line between folk, alt.country,
& rock on all of his cd's. It's hard to beat his songwriting skills. He uses a multi-instrumentalist named "Phil Madeira" on most of his cd's. He plays everything including steel guitar. His credits include cd's by "Keb' Mo', Julie Miller, Phil Keaggy, Charlie Peacock, and a host of top name Christian, Soul & Rock artist.

Yeah, Greg is an excellent (and very underrated) songwriter and performer.

Check out some great steel playing by Al Perkins and Steve Fishell on a coupe of Greg's earlier albums, "Popular Demons" and "Straight Down Rain", and Larry Campbell on steel on the album "Everywhere".

get 'em on his website

As a matter of fact, i was going to post something about Greg Trooper too. I found him by coincidence. A great songwriter and singer. Great playing on all his records too. Listen to Steve Fishell's steel on "Real like that". Tasty.

He's great indeed! And, if you want to contribute to his family fund when in Nashville, his wife and brother-in-law own the coolest ice cream place in town (Bobbie's Dairy Dip on Charlotte Ave.). No G.T. tunes on the sound system but the best soft serve you'll ever wanna cool down with on a swampy Nashville day.
