Winona with tracks on the Leno show?
I just watched Wynonna Judd on the Tonight show. She had nine people on stage with her, two keyboards, bass, drummer, one guy on a Les Paul another guy playing an electric 5-string banjo with a flatpick, and three backup singers.
This is what I HEARD- two electric guitars, acoustic guitar, pedal steel doing all the fills. So where did they hide the other electric, the acoustic, and the steel player?
When the song ended the one of the keyboard player jump over to his rack and turned off a disk player.
Why would someone go on national TV and perform a song that has pedal steel and banjo all over it and not have a steel player or real banjo picker on stage?
She can afford to have three backup singers standing behind her and a guy faking it on banjo.
[This message was edited by Alvin Blaine on 14 August 2003 at 10:01 PM.]

And you know what a huge market share we represent, of course. The only people that noticed were steel players.

Question: what percentage of the Forum are regular consumers of Wynona product?

I thought she was real sick and had to break up the mom daughter act because she had some sort of fatal illness....Thats when the mother started her own solo recording career, and then BIG Judd, actually the daughter, went on Opra and her illness was gone..
oopps....I have it backwards...
And yes, we are a very small society up here but we don't miss a thing do we....
God Bless Al Gore for inventing this here Internet...

Wy can sing country, pop, gospel, blues, jazz any kind of music it's why I'm a fan of hers.
It's sad she doesn't have a steelplayer in her band. But, on her cd's she uses steel. Regardless,
The lady can sing!
I'm glad she's back. Theresa
[This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 14 August 2003 at 03:17 PM.]

That's what got me last night was the steel was the most prominent melody instrument in the mix, but not a steel on stage. It's sad she doesn't have a steelplayer in her band. But, on her cd's she uses steel.
Maybe it's just me, but there is no way I could go on stage with a ten piece band and play a song when the primary melody instrument isn't even on stage. I've seen enough of that with these lame lounge bands in Vegas, that have a singer, drummer, keyboard player(with all the other instruments on a hard drive), and four dancer/backup singers. I DON'T want to see it with a major act, no matter what instrument(steel, fiddle, guitar, banjo, ect) is missing! To me that's a rip off and nothing more than a over glorified karaoke act.

Buy Wynonia??????
I just bought Jim Cohans album,
2 albums of Willie and Ray plus the Heartworn Highways DVD. Now I've got planned purchases of Rodney Crowell, Del McCoury and Wayne Hancock at the top of my list for a visit to to Waterloo in Austin.
My female purchases added up in recent months
with Susie Boggus, Roseanne Cash, Jeannie Kendle and Etta James.

It makes me curious as to why a singer/producer/entertainer would use an Instrument such as a Steel as a dominant part of a track which sells the CD..but when it's actually time to go out and perform the song which got you into the arena to begin with you leave the Instrument out which was an integral part of the track..
There are more than enough double duty players out there that can cover electric R+R Guitar and Steel guitar.IF she can't find one tell her to call me..
Yes I think WY..is a talented singer but I also think she is a legend in her own mind...
She's good..but she aint' the best..
Try to imagine Shania going out on the road without a Steel on Forever and Always..
maybe she will..I sure hope not..Her voice and PF make the entire song what it is..

To me the issue is not that the record has a steel on it but she doesn't tour with a steel player. The issue is that she appears supposedly "live" on a TV show with no steel player in sight, yet there is steel all over the place. It makes me wonder if there was anything "live" about it at all.
And I agree with the above comment/question about not hiring a person to switch between both steel and guitar on tour. There are probably thousands of men and women out there that could do this task, in addition to probably playing several other instruments and singing as well. Why would a "country" person NOT do it, especially if they have several major songs with steel on them?
