I was watching a few minutes of the history of country music series on Trio when someone said something that caught my attention. I don't who it was but he was talking about some the older artist like Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe, etc. He said that "country was what they were, not what they choose to be". I thought that pretty well sums it up for me in relation to new artist. In my opinion, most all new artists look like they do "country music" because it's what they choose rather than what they are. Like it's the the best chosen route for them for fame and glory, but their heart is really somewhere else. Maybe that's part of the reason that today's music is lacking in heart and soul.
I can't even remember the last time an artist and song simply tore my heart out. Anyway that's my take on it.
