Screw You, We're From Texas!

Post by Chris Schlotzhauer »

I just got back from Austin and SXSW. I heard Ray Wylie Hubbard's new "anthem" song, "Screw You, We're From Texas. Of course you know he penned "Redneck Mother" in the early 70's, which is still played by every band in Texas, in particular the young artists. Ray always said, if you're going to write a song, be prepared to sing it for 25 yrs.
Only Ray can get away with a song like that. He is a terrific writer, and very funny guy.

I mentioned the song "Going back to Texas to be one more horse's ass."

At one time I worked with a Willie Nelson Impersonator. That happened to be the only "Texas" song he knew. I tried to get him to do "Rose of San Antone", or Deep in the Heart of Texas", but he just insisted on doing it. Especially when some "good ole boys" from the Lone Star State would demand a "Texas Song".

Leon had had his nose broken more times than my G# string, an it caused the band to cringe every time he'd start out, "Why did I leave that woman....." Those were some fun times. Otherwise slow and boring nights pass really quickly when you know people are waiting in the parking lot to beat you to death.

Wonder what ever happened to him...

God Bless Texas.

(The place they caught Jefferson Davis wearing a dress.)

Hey, Eric, I don't want to start anything, but you got something against the South? My hometown is where the war began(the order of secession was signed right here in Abbeville, SC)as well as the last place Jefferson met with his cabinet. Nothing particularly significant there, but we're good folk down here. Fairly tolerant, as you must have learned during your stay here. Polite to a fault(mostly), and we try to be forgiving. Except, maybe, when it comes to Sherman.
Anyway, you're still welcome at my house.

Anyone remember the 80's Dallas band, the Loco Gringos!? They had t-shirts with huge lettering saying "F*** you, we're from Texas" (with the F word all spelled out). Not to say that's at all an uncommon sentiment here. (or so I've heard...)
