Johnny Paycheck's health
Anyone know the status of Johnny's health? I've been asked to play at a benefit for him. Knew he'd been sick last fall but haven't heard anything recently.

The topic came up here awhile ago but I haven't heard anything recently. His talent will surely be missed by his many fans.
A couple weeks ago I dug out my vinyl of "Slide Off Of Your Satin Sheets" and burned it on CD. It sure is great to hear him sing songs like "If You Could Hold My Heart for Awhile". Whew! I think Weldon did the fine steel work on that album.

Jim Vest played steel guitar on Slide off your Satin Sheets, only hell my momma ever raised, Take this job, etc.
I was working in Printer's Alley at the Captain's Table when Vest and the Nashville Cats were playing at the Western Room. Every night they'd back up Paycheck and play these songs. Jim answered any question about any lick.
Jim tuned his low B note down and bent it back up to play the lick. He also played a similar lick on the Vern Gosdin song...Set 'Em Up Joe...later...joe
