Lou Harrison Dies

Post by Bobby Lee »

Classical composer Lou Harrison died Sunday, at the age of 85, apparently of a heart attack.

I have a lot of Lou Harrison records. I've always enjoyed his use of just intonation, and his delight in simple harmony. His music is unique, full of unusual influences from around the world. I urge anyone with an interest in world music and JI to seek out Lou Harrison recordings.

I'm going on a Lou Harrison listening binge right now. He left a very rich musical legacy. What a wonderful life!

I got to meet and have a seminar with him and Bill Colvig at Cal Arts in the early '70s. What an absolutely wonderful man he was.
