A while back I was playing lead at a jam session and a guy came up to sing. We did a couple of tunes and then he wanted to do a song called "Come on Home and Sing the Blues to Daddy". What's weird is that I remembered all the chords, some of the words, and the arrangement pretty well but for the life of me I can't (and he couldn't either) remember who did the song. I think it was in the 60's or 70's maybe. We did a half time thing in the verse and went to a 2/4 on the bridge. I think this was a big hit but I may be wrong. Thanks for any help on this...........JH

It was BOB LUMEN. I worked with him on a couple of shows way back when. Unfortunately,
Bob has passed on, but his music was great, and he was a great guy to be around.

Billy, he spelled his last name Luman, and you're right he was a great entertainer. I worked with him several times. In the early La Hayride days he was a close competitor with Elvis. The last time I worked with him was in Hawaii, and he drank 2 quarts of booze per day, but you couldn't tell it. I never even saw him tipsy.

I believe the song was written by Ray Corbin,
who used to perform in Phoenix. I had heard that Ray was performing at a club,& a "slightly irate" ex-girlfriend,came in & shot & killed him. Anybody else hear that story?

This song was also recorded in 1969 by Charley Pride, its on the LP "THE SENSATIONAL CHARLEY PRIDE" which is also available now on CD on the KOCH lable, is an import so you most likely have to order it, but it is a great CD believe me.
Pete Wade does some cool guitar work on it, as does Pig Robbins on the Piano,and the GREAT LLOYD GREEN is playing steel all over this album. Its classic, vintage Charley Pride.

I knew Ray Corbin...what an entertainer, I met him shortly after moving to Phoenix. He used to work at McGoo's Club, and was a DJ during the day at the old KHAT Radio station. I was not aware that he wrote that song, but I am not surprised. He was a multi-talented guy. The story I heard about his demise was that he was shot either by his wife or girlfriend when he was caught by the other. I think it happened in an apartment or his home, not while he was working. Terrible tragedy what we do to other human beings.
