I was watching CMT last night and Vince Gill was hosting a sort of Bluegrass video show. He introduced a Dolly Parton song/video as a remake of an old song by "Blackhawk," called "Train, Train."
"That's funny," I thought to myself, "I thought the name of that group was Blackfoot, not Blackhawk." I know that it wasn't simply a mis-que by Mr. Gill, because the name "Blackhawk" was plastered up on the lower left corner of my TV screen.
A quick, two-minute excursion on the internet proved I was correct -- the name of the group is Blackfoot. Now, I know that everybody makes mistakes at one time or another, but sheesh, these guys are supposed to be professionals. Rather than spending two-minutes making sure of the origin of the song, it seems that the CMT writer simply shot from the hip.
On top of that, if the CMT writer had done just two minutes worth of research instead of shooting from the hip, not only would he/she have gotten the name of the original group correct, but would also have found that Rickey Medlocke, who was the lead guitarist and vocalist for Blackfoot, and who wrote Train Train, was the grandson of a bluegrass musician named Shorty Medlocke. Interesting. Maybe CMT should have the audience write their material . . .
[This message was edited by Tom Olson on 25 November 2002 at 08:52 AM.]
