the Brothers Cosmoline
I stumbled over a rare treat this week while channel-surfing through the usually banal TV Ontario broadcast.
The group was called "the Brothers Cosmoline" and the first thing that caught my attention was a great rhythm guitar player.. then I noticed the great steel parts to the music. Although I'd never seen the steeler before, who played a Fulawka D-10 in a refreshing style.. I made up my mind that it must be Burke Carrol. Sure enough it was.
I wish I could define the music I heard, but it defied categorization. It had swing and honky-tonk influences, but it was fresh and modern.
The interviewer asked some questions of the bandleader, and also asked specifically what the pedal steel was. The bandleader (whose name I have sadly forgotten) provided an apt description of the intrument and referred to it as his "secret weapon".
Great job, Mr. Carrol, my compliments. It's so nice to hear a group that uses a great steel player to it's full potential.
I also understand Mr. Carrol plays with a group in Toronto called the "Bebop Cowboys", sometimes replaced by forumite Bob Taillefer. I'm hoping I hear more about both of these groups in the future.

Hey John, I've had the pleasure twice of hearing Burke play with the Bebop Cowboys in downtown Toronto. Passed thru town a few times over the past year or so and Bob T. and I met up at the club for a great evening of western swing. You oughta come on out and hear these guys! If I can do it, surely you can too!

I'm pretty sure the guitar player is Steve Briggs; yeah the Brothers Cosmoline are amazing; they swung (pardon the pun) out West for some gigs and festival dates this past summer and we had a chance to see them a few times - it was a blast to meet and spend some time with Burke and Steve; they're all wonderful people, great musicians and as you've obviously noticed there's some really strong writing from Dan Kershaw

I was in Toronto on a Wednesday a couple of weeks ago, and to my everlasting regret was unable to stay overnight to catch the BeBop cowboys. The Brothers C were terrific when they were through here awhile back - Burke is a real fine player and an equally nice guy. He also plays with Luther Wright and the Wrongs, who have done some fairly extensive touring recently.
