Charlie Christian box set

Post by Janice Brooks »

Over in No Depresson there is discussion about Charlie who was a jazz swing guitar legend. My friend from Olklahoma City said
teachers never mentioned him for what he was.
What caught my interest was that Les Paul
stated in the box liner notes that the first time he met Charlie he was jamming with Bob Wills.

On N.E. 4th Street in Oklahoma City....musicians still fall to the ground and lay prostrate with hands outstretched when Charlie Christian is mentioned! Image www.genejones.com

My copy of the new boxed set arrived yesterday. Amazing!

I always liked the Columbia LP collections but this blows away all the older releases both because of the number of tunes and the inclusion of alternate takes. Very good booklet too as an additional bonus.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I was reading a review of the set and the reviewer made a point that Charlie was influenced by Leon McAuliffe.
