I love my XM radio. Sound is far superior to FM, and is CD quality all the time. Almost all commercial free. 170+ channels. 6 country channels.

Ron, over in b0b's thread about New Country S... err... Sound, we discussed what conventional broadcast radio stations do to process the audio before putting it on the air. Tons of multi-band compression, aural enhancement (boosted high end plus a small amount of even harmonic distortion), de-essing, and whatever... The result is pretty unpleasant--to my ears, anyway. From what I've heard of digital channels so far (XM is digital satellite), they just play the CDs untouched (data compression notwithstanding, which is not supposed to have any effect on the sound). I sure have liked what I've heard! I hope they never get the FM broadcaster's bug and start squashing the sound with gobs of processing.

You can also listen to it on line for free,or until they go broke. They just posted a $122 MILLION loss for the last quarter, but have enough cash to run through the first quarter of next year. You can read about it on this link. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53227-2002Jul23.html
