Kim.
I retired from the music business in 1988. I keep my vocal chords in reasonable shape recording in my music room here in the house, on a Multi Track recorder, and with Karaoke tracks. How are you coming with your steel playing? If you need help, theforum is the place to be!! These folks are wonderful about sharing information with others. Image

Hi Leigh!

I guess I have a lot to learn about this forum thing, huh? Image I see now that we weren't supposed to be just "yapping" about personal stuff . . . just steel guitar stuff . . . on the other page.

The steel playing is coming, but coming slow! Image I played other instruments over the years, but this is the hardest thing I have ever tried to play. The guys have been great though, I'll give 'em that! The steel guitar community has been wonderfully open-armed. They are all willing to help and show me anything I want to know. I've learned that it's not what you know, it's who you get the chance to be around -- and steal licks from! Ha!

Yeah, quit yappin' in my Mass Steel Bash post! Image

Kim, Leigh has a nice web site with audio clips and some cool pictures from the glory days. The last photo on the "photo page" is one of us playing at Billy T's in W. Springfield Mass back in the mid-80's. I figure we did about 1300 nights there. It was an adventure! Leigh was always big on steel guitar and he kept a lot of us working back then.

Just thinking out loud, but I started to picture Leigh as a Girl with a pretty dress on and singing with that great baritone voice of his. Imagegreat voice but sure would be one of the ugliest females I think...Ok Leigh, I know I'd be no Beauty contest winner myself.Anyway I always have trouble with my high heel boots let alone shoes... Image We could do a moe Bandy and Joe thing like wheres the dress...O well I need something to do for the next 73 days as you can see i have too much time on my hands...

Doug!

Sorry about infringing on your Mass Steel Bash post! I'm such a rookie at this! Ha! I'm a quicker learner (is that a word?! Ha!) though, so bear with me! Image I went to Leigh's website and checked it out -- thanks! Some very cool stuff there! So the last photo is ya'll (that's what we say here in the south) playing, huh? Looks to me like that's an Emmons you're sitting behind! I hear you! (Well, I don't really "hear" you, but you know what I mean!) Mid-80's . . . gotta love the style! Image I show horses, so I'm particularly fond of the cowboys hats in those days! Image (Don't you just love old pictures!) Image

Leigh:

You really do have some very cool stuff on the website. I can't wait to download and hear some of your stuff. (Wanted to finish this reply first.) You've got a great list of songs on there! I play steel on some of them in the band I'm with now, so maybe I'll learn me a thing or two! Image The guys I play with are so good to me. I play "regular" (Ha!) guitar too and sing, so it's a trade-off . . . they "put up" with my steel playing to have me! (Whatever will get me playing the steel is fine with me!) Image I also noticed that you're from PA . . . my daddy's from PA -- about an hour southwest of Pittsburgh -- a little town called Manor. Well, let me go check things out! I'll talk to you soon! Look forward to meeting you one day! (You too Doug!)
