Vince is one of my favorite country artists. I just pulled out his Souvenirs CD and played that song. Nice. And John did a great job, too.

John Hughey complimented Vince Gill the same as he complimented Conway Twitty. He gave them a recognizable sound, something that has become a lost art today. Vince just finished cutting a new album two weeks ago. No release date set but there will be plenty of John Hughey steel on it.

Maybe Vince learned his lesson from his last CD. No steel, and I didn't buy it and I suspect a lot of other people didn't buy it either. John is the man who made Vince a star, just like he did Conway.

...and yes, Theresa, Vince Gill does sound great, on that tune and dozens of others..and of course John Hughey's steel complements the music beautifully!...Vince Gill (with John Hughey, or course) is one of the artists that I have made the effort to see in concert, and I wasn't disappointed..and Vince is an awesome guitar player!!!...[This message was edited by Pat Burns on 29 March 2002 at 07:06 AM.]

I don't know why Vince would be without a steel guitar.

I do know that he shared his Musician Of The Year Award with John the year Conway died. And I heard him say on an interview that he "Just wanted to go to the house and listen to John play."

That tells me all I need to know about Vince Gill !!

Does John not run the road with Vince anymore? He was here in Florida at the Strawberry Festival and John wasn't with him.I didn't go because I knew that John was in Alabama at the time. Jim I'D RATHER BE STEELIN'

"Never Knew Lonely" was one of Vince's best songs to me. That song didn't make his career, but I love it! Theresa

I asked John in Dallas last week if he and Vince would be touring together. He said that he still goes out for a weekend gig with Vince pretty often, but just doesn't want to burn up the road anymore after 47 years of doing so.

Truer words have never been spoken! I too have worked for those who thought the band was there for looks, yet it is really funny though that "none" of these singers ever go into the studio and cut without us pickers!

My thoughts about Vince Gill.
I was at the Opry one night with Weldon and Vince and the band were there that night. I passed their dressing room and saw John setting up his Steel. I stopped at the door and John invited me in, as I hadnt seen John in several years. They were getting ready to reherse, when it came time for the break, John stopped and ask if he wanted just a turn around or what, Vince said no take it all the way through as we will be on TV and I want yall be seen.
That made me respect Vince as he was thinking about the band and not him self.
