Satellite Radio

Post by Dave Smith »

Finally, there is an alternative to commercial radio in your car without carrying along your collection of CDs or tapes. For several years we have been able to enjoy "traditional country" music in our home via 4DTV satellite receiver. Well now through XM Radio (visit their website),$10 per month gets you over 100 digital channels of a wide variety of music in your automobile. There are two channels that play only "real country music" from the 40s through the 80s. Just imagine having Merle, George, Ray, ET, Faron, Webb, Buck, Little Jimmy, Hank Sr., Patsy, Loretta, Tammy, Connie, Dolly and on and on . . . 24/7. My wife and I got each other this gift for Christmas and it's the best Christmas present I think I ever got. We put a receiver in her car and one in my truck. No -I don't begrudge Garth, Tim, Tobey, Faith and Shanya their tremendous success. HOWEVER, I want to be able to listen to my kind of music and now I can. Do yourself a favor and visit the XM Radio web site. The receiver runs about $400 installed but for what you get it's worth every penny IMHO.

If you hear any steel guitar/dobro on the I-D "teasers" on your xm radio country and alterna-country programming, it's likely to be yours truly.

I did a session a few months back at their truly space age headquarters in DC...short snippets into ProTools that the engineer was gonna deconstruct and manipulate. Never heard the end result but got paid AND a nice ball cap with their logo on it Image

Hi Dave - Yes I have heard you. I listen to Channel 13, "Hank's Place" most of the time and they use a "steel guitar teaser" which must be you. It's a simple backward roll in the A-B pedal position with an A pedal release and squeeze. Tastefully done and effective. I love my XM Radio Image Image Image
