Chet played on a LOT of early rock&roll records including Elvis after RCA bought out his SUN contract and he started recording in Nashville plus most stuff by the Everly Bros - just to name a few.

...and lest we forget, Bob Wills (who never recorded a R&R song) was inducted into the R&R HOF about 4 or 5 years ago because his music had such an "influence" on musicians of the venue!

I would also venture to guess that Chet was inducted because of his possible influence on rock guitar players, much as Bob Wills was inducted.
