I'd like to take this opportunity to offer a special recognition to Tommy White's wife, Teresa.
For those who don't know, Teresa is one of the "camera" operators on the Grand Ol' Opry "Live" TV show and is the one who gets all those great "steel player" shots. You can bet that anytime there is a steel player on the show she will be right there to get the best camera shot possible. During our portion of the 'Opry show the other night, anytime I looked up, she was right there. She was also the one who got the great shots of "Murph" playing with Asleep At The Wheel, and many of the other close ups, as well.
So, "thanks Teresa!" for all the great camera coverage you give all us "pickers! (Our Mothers really apreciate it!
Hey Dave,
I'll have to admit she's great. I've seen some shows where the camera will be on the fiddle player when the steelman's taking a ride or on the steel when the guitar's doing it and so on. I'm glad she knows who's doing what. On another note, did you ever see the old American Music Shop Show which featured Mark O'Conner & the New Nashville Cats when they were spotlighting his album? I'll have to say that was the best camera work I've ever encountered in my life on any TV show anywhere. When Paul Franklin took his rides the camera was in front and below him. You could actually look up almost under his strings and see the picks attacking the strings. When Brent Mason took his ride on the opening instrumental tune the cameraman (or woman) was kind of under and in front of him too. You could see his fingernails and thumbpick attacking the strings and what fingers he used for each thing he picked. I'd like to find out who that was. Who knows, maybe it was Teresa?

Teresa is a class act and just an all around good person. I try to remember to give her credit for the great shots she gives us but I sometime get carried away with one of my rants and forget. Just to show you how good of a cameraperson she is, right after Dave took his ride Saturday night and they were panning back to Jean, that image that flashed on screen for a moment was ME and I was 200 miles away in my living room. Now THAT'S a damn good cameraperson!!!!!! She also has a pretty good husband also.
When I was one of the Studio Engineers at Channel 5 WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC; we used to consider ourselves better than camera persons or floor staff. Then I grew up and learned the truth. What you see is what they do and the truth will out.
I have been burnt by so many videos that sound a steel guitar and show a fiddle player or drummer, that it doesn't hurt anymore. It's simply par for the course.
But I still think; doesn't that stupid so and so even know the difference ?? Maybe not but it does make the video appear to be idiotic. The result is in the viewer/customer, as if the producer ever heard of those things.....
