With a few what if? ...type topics around, I thought I might add one.
Now what if you had a record deal to pull together a recording project, if you had an A&R position for a project that you would love to pull together, an experimental one-off or a career starter.. what would you go for?
I have a few:
A new Hank Thompson record, which in itself is not a rare thing (thankfully), but half the set would be recorded with Merle Haggard and the Strangers, the same group that recorded the 'Roots' project.
The rest of the CD would be recorded with Pee Wee Whitewing's band, whether live or studio, well we'd try some gigs and see waht developes!
2: A compilation CD of material by Blackie Crawford & The Western Cherokees, with a couple of WCs/Lefty Frizzell sides thrown in, the groups records for Starday and Coral, as well as various related sides by other Starday artists. We're talking 1951-1955 type vintage here.
But the more I get into this, the harder it gets. How about a compilation of rare West Coast bluegrass from the 1960s, or a sampler of more rare late 1960s country-rock acts..
Then again, a reissue label concept, long delted albums by Neil Flanz, Noel Boggs, Leon McAuliffe, Curly Chalker, etc...
or.... more archive recordings of Jimmie Rivers & the Western Cherokees, Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angles, or the West Coast All-Stars, a 1950s Western Swing group with Bobby Black and Pee Wee Whitewing.. egad, somebody stop me!
Okay, forget the reissues, that's too much, let's stick to recording projects like the Hank Thompson one I mentioned.. any thoughts?
