Austin musician Champ hood passes away from cancer
The following comments are from Peter Blackstock co editor No Depression magazene
He was one of austin's most beloved musicians. He also had quite an
impressive gang of folks he'd played fiddle and guitar with over the years,
starting back in the 70s in South Carolina with Walter Hyatt and David Ball
in Uncle Walt's Band, thru the 80s with various austin folks including Jimmie
Dale Gilmore (jimmie & champ hosted the wednesday supper sessions gigs at
threadgills for many years), and into the 90s with Toni price and various
others, including a few tours with Lyle Lovett.

Here are some pictures of Toni Price and one of Champ Hood with fiddle.
Maybe ACL will replay the Tribute To Walter Hyatt... and Uncle Walt's Band... if so check it out... it was a real treat.

Yes indeed a big loss. I play with his son Warren from time to time; and Warren is diffinatly following in his Dad's footsteps on Fiddle quite nicely.
I hope Warren can keep his chin up and know that his Dad loved him very much and is gleeming with pride for him.
God bless the Hood family and I'll talk to Warren this week and tell him he has many many prayers with him.

Champ used to hang around here in Charleston back in the 70's and made frequent trips later with Uncle Walt's band. I was lucky enough to get to know him and pick with him several times. We'd exchange Beatles songs back then 1972 or so). He was a stellar musician and a warm and friendly person.
