War songs on Country Radio

Post by Janice Brooks »

With apologys to my fellow BR549 fans and Lee Greenwood supporters.

God Bless the USA had reentered the country charts and is sitting at
Nr 16. The next single from This Is BR549 will be their remake of A
Little Good News. (Wonder how many
stations or company's will cencer based the the lryic about
Highjacking)

If you actuly listen to country radio could you handle these songs in
heavy rotation? The song Mark Wills did on the opry tonight "The
Balloon Song" might also apply

A few years ago I had the privilege of attending a graduation ceremony at Fr. Bragg located in North Crolina. My son-in-law at the time was graduating as a green beret. Several patriotic songs were played during the ceremony, one of the songs was "God Bless The USA." I was very proud of Greenwood and I'm sure if he had been there he would been very pleased. One of the officers on the program was named "Rambo".
One of the most stirring patriotic songs during World War II was, "There's A Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere" sung by Elton Britt.

I remember the Elton Britt recording. There
also was "Smoke on the Water"....maybe Roy
Acuff. I think I also remember Spade Cooley
doing a nice western swing instrumental of it.
[This message was edited by Doug Seymour on 23 September 2001 at 04:52 AM.]

No one but those who started out on six-string lap steels tuned in Amaj will remember these:

"When The Yanks Raised the Stars & Stripes on Iwo Jima Isle"......"Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition"....."Smoke on the Water".

P.S. My apology Doug, I forgot that you already revealed your age with "Smoke on the Water"! Image

I thought "Smoke on the Water" was Red Foley.

During the early days of the Opry it wan't at all unusual to hear the same song sung by different performers on the same Saturday night. If it was popular it was up for grabs. "Smoke on The Water" was the baby of the late Zeke Clemmons or Clements. I can not recall him singing anything else. Roy and others probably sung that song. Charlie Walker sings this song from time to time.

Here`s a question Bin Laden, and It`s you who must decide. When atomic bombs start falling, do you have a place to hide?

Borrowed from "SMoke On the water"
