I sent an email to cmt.ca(CMT in Canada), complaining about their schedule, which does not include the Opry live telecast, have received no reply as yet. Any of you steelers in Canada, send them a complaint, tell your friends--I think it's disgraceful, not being able to see the Opry. By the way, does ANYBODY still watch TNN(the Nothing Network)?

I dont watch TNN anymore. Nothing on there I want to see. They might have a good movie occasionally, but it's mostly geared to the young folks now. Which is fine I quess. CMT has always had more country on it than TNN did anyway. It's got the opry now and I'll always watch that no matter what station it's on!! Image

I've got to tell ya. I'm less impressed this week than I was last week. There were a few good moments, but thats it. Cindi Thompson is a beautiful girl, and is very talented, but what she does, does not belong on the opry IMHO.Bring on the flamethrowers, but thats the way I feel. Image

Got to agree with you Leigh. I FORCED myself to watch the Opry tonight to see what it was like now that it's on CMT. Let me see if I can think of just the right word for it...hmmm.....oh yeah, CRAP! Jim Ed and Jack Green did a good job, the rest of the show was CRAP! Since moving to CMT the sound quality is terrible, timing coming back in from a commercial is rotten, the chick that was doing the interviewing was LOUSY, and the commercial breaks were WAY too long. I can't believe that they have taken something as sacred as the Grand Ole Opry and have just ruined it! What a bunch of CRAP! Cindy Whatever-her-name-was is CERTAINLY NOT COUNTRY!!!! I didn't like Trent Summer at all but he was relatively in the ballpark. Man, I wonder what the great legends of Country Music think of this CRAP! I seriously doubt that George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and all the greats, really think Country Music is heading in the right direction. Those people BUILT country music just to watch today's CRAP artist tear it down. It's just a matter of time...It saddens me to think how things will be 10 years from now. I LOVE the legends of Country Music and it really pisses me off to see these GREAT GREAT people getting tossed by the wayside to make way for more Shania Twain and Tim McGraw clones. Neither of those people are country and neither are the hundreds of people that sound just like 'em getting record deals. Where is the tradition, and even more importantly, where is the HEART AND SOUL that I used to be able to hear when I turned on the radio? Todays "country music" has NO SOUL!
Ok...I guess I'm done.
Probably not done for good...but done for now.

I have to agree with Leigh and Dave. The Opry on CMT is crap. I think they show less live performances now in one hour than TNN did in a half hour. And they can send Lisa whats her name back to the minor leagues. Personally, I can't stand to listen to her. I started switching back and forth to the Winston Cup race and Packer game but everytime I switched to CMT there was nothing but commercials being aired. I think the real good live tv performance of the Opry is over for the time being. At least I have my McCall, Bush, Price and Connie Smith CDs to listen to. Just my honest and disgusted perspective on the situation. LH

The scedule must have changed to have B J Thomas on. Trent Sumner sounds better on his album. I'm not impressed with Cyndi Thompson.

In Closing I will say with my brothers wedding today it was appropriete to hear The
3 Bells.

The best part of the entire show was seeing that Tommy had a fresh hair cut and hearing his intro on Statue Of A Fool. Image What in the hell did that spastic Sumner kid think he was doing? It certainly wasn't performing or singing! That poor little girl should have just stayed in Georgia although she was kinda cute with a nice butt, but it ended there. You are all being too kind by calling it crap, it was SH!T, pure and simple!!!!!

I enjoyed Jack Green's "Statue of a Fool" with Tommy White on steel, and Jim Ed Brown doing "The Three Bells" (who was the steeler?).

Hey Mike, are you related to Jim Ed? There's a similarity... Image

......You are about the 10th person that has asked me that same question including Lloyd Green and the World Famous Smiley Roberts. Unless his traveling show came through my hometown 50 years ago, I don't believe I am. Image

You guys are sure trashin that poor Thompson girl. It wasnt country but at least tone wise she was in the ballpark and her guitar player did a great job. As for this Trent Sumner now thats a different story. Ive heard dogs howl on tune better than that.

I will have to agree with the general consensus. They threw in a bone to us, with Jim Ed, and Jack Green. But I can see the end of it all.
Now that the Opry is off TNN, I will never watch TNN again. And if I have to watch a lot of commercials and what they are calling "Country" on CMT , I'll pass on that too.
The next thing you know is will be all packaged and taped. No more will you see "live"........al Image Image Image

After watching the Opry on CMT, for about the first 30 minutes, which was about all I could stomach, I felt like Country Music has just boarded the Titanic..... Image

I want to know what was happening on stage during all of the commercial/talk breaks. I keep feeling like I'm missing something.

Bobby,
You are missing them change musicians and artist. You need to be there to watch the tranformation backstage or in the audience. It's a wonderful thing. Theresa

It takes 5-10 minutes for the bands to change? It certainly didn't take that long when I was backstage, nor did it take that long when it was on TNN. There must be other artists performing that we are missing while all the commercials and interviews are running. Image
