Your Choice for the Perfect Opry live Show!

Post by Al Udeen »

If you could put together the perfect Opry Live Show, Who would you pick? Here's my choice! Gene Watson
Ray Price
Loretta Lynn
Darrel McCall [w/Tommy or Buddy!]
Charlie Pride
Connie Smith
Merle Haggard

Of course it would have to be a 1hr show!
To me, this is a steel players dream! >au P.S. would you tape it?

You've pretty much got my picks covered!! I could add more, but like you say,not enough time.I'd do better than tape that show!! I'd have to be there for that one!! Image

There are still a lot of "country" singers out there that have never had a chance or have been passed over in favor of the "new" artists. Just eliminate the "pretty faces" and put true country artists on there.

The way some of the new talent gets a chance to showcase on the Opry, it makes one wonder if "payola" is still alive and well.

Al, you must agree that Ricky Scaggs must rate as one of "the" most inovative easily recognisable voices to come accross for many years. I must agrre though that the "steelie" to back him would be very hard to work out as each one has given us greatness to listen to for many years to come.

Vince Gill just has to have a place there along with Mr Hughey. To me, Vince has turned cheek and opted out of the "real" Country of late though.

Albert Lee along with the Everly brothers and Buddy can fill the bill for the week afters show.

Bob Mainwaring. Z.Bs. and other weird things.

Charley Pride-Crystal Chandeliers

I know Vince has strayed a bit, but I still think John Hughey should bring him along as his guest. Image The Original Posting List is perfect otherwise and I just don't like Traditional Country, I love it.

Well since it was'nt mentioned that it had to be a current show...
Roy Acuff hosts the show with such greats like Carl & Pearl Butler, Pee Wee King & the Golden West Cowboys, Tex Ritter, Hank Williams, and special guest from Texas,Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. And to close out the show E T and the boys.
Of course that would have to be a full hour of opry.
Wow, what a show!!!!
[This message was edited by Billy Johnson on 23 July 2001 at 02:00 PM.]

[This message was edited by Billy Johnson on 23 July 2001 at 02:00 PM.]

Don't want to start nothin' here, but my choice would be to do one or two all instrumental shows a year! Image

Think of it...two nights a year for just our "unsung/uncredited heroes". I really think it's the least they could do.

Iv'e been working the perfect Opry shows and they have been great! Musical heaven for a steel player.I had almost forgotten how much I really loved the good old "pure" country music performed by the original "stars" themselves. Jimmy Dickins came over to me on the last show and asked me if I knew the intro to "We Could". I did it exactly the way Walter Hains did it in'55 and I thought Jimmy was gonna' cry.Sometimes it's a blessing to be kinda old! I think I made a friend for life,or whats left of it!
I'm a "all music lover" but good country played sweet and pretty is awfully hard to beat,in my soul anyway.

But I do hate working the "road".Even though we do fly. Out of town is out of town,no matter how you stack it. No,--------- Home is where the heart is! Show some special love for the "road" guys, they deserve it! Get out and see them,They are doin' it for you, the money ain't that good!
