New Country Song?

Post by Jim Smith »

I heard a song while riding my Harley last night that almost knocked my off my bike. I didn't catch the artist or the title but the bridge went something like, "I'd give my right n*t to save country music. I'd gladly be half the man I am, 'cause it's that 'impotent' to me." Image

It had a great melody and might just be another "Murder on Music Row". Has anyone else heard it and can provide more details?

Sounds a lot like something David Allen Coe used to do. "If that ain't country, I'll kiss your a$$ !" Maybe we could change that to: If that's Country, I'll kiss your ---!! Regards, Paul Image Image Image Image

Smiley, I agree with you on David Allen Coe, but it definitely wasn't him. This guy could sing! Image

The name of the artist escapes me, but the title is "I'd Give My Right Nut to Save Country Music". Lee Ann Womack sang on the original until her label went nuts (so to speak) for doing it without their permission and squashed it.

My favorite line is when Lee Ann sang "would you give your righty to hear a little Lefty?"...

(My senior moment just went away and I remember the artist now is Ray Driskoll Image) www.raydriskoll.com

Doing some further research, Virgin Nashville was supposed to release the CD sometime this quarter...except Virgin closed it's doors about a month ago...
[This message was edited by John Macy on 27 May 2001 at 05:39 PM.]

I'm curious. Why the David Allen Coe bashing? It's obvious he's not main stream and a little tilted. I've always thought of him as the George Carlin of country music. Am I missing something, or is there no room for that?

David was booked into the club I was playing in about 15 years ago, and although the parking lot was full of Harley's and the club was packed to the till, there were no fights or problems, and I enjoyed his show. It was a one of a kind, not like any other performers I had seen, and the music was pretty good. He doesn't mince any words, so if your're touchy about that, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not a family show.

I went to the web site. I like the last sentence: (paraphrase) "We're keeping this quiet because we're not sure if we'll ever hear from Ray again." Now, that's funny!

The domain name is expired and will drop off the root servers in a few months.

I personally know nothing of the life of David Allen Cole. And it is a ,too each his own thing here.Tho, He is no doubt considered one of the outlaw's,of today's music,he most defeintly has a following. And is a well established song writer, even out side the country circle.I saw him perform at a casino in Vicksburg.alTho dureing a small break it was requested that he do one of his not so nicer songs,he refused.A young group up front began to hollor out for the song. But David ,politely but stearnly made it known, that it was a family show that he had come to do.And he did perform, and when the crowd refused to let him close's his show.He and his band played another full hour.I was very well pleased and impressed.
He's just like me or you ,he put's his pant's on one leg at atime

I believe the Sons Of The Desert are on "Right Nut" along with Lee Ann.
Here's a little more info on Ray Driskoll. www.carlp.com/p-stuff.html
