Gregg Harris...anyone know of him?

Post by Rich Paton »

I have a CD by a cat named Gregg Harris, who I know absolutely nothing about, but he played excellent guitar, mandolin, b@njoe, and probably also the fiddle parts on it.
On his cut of "Minor Swing" has some of the tastiest b@njoe I've heard. That coming from me, you've gotta know he's great!
I can't seem to dredge up any info about him on the internet.
This may be a long shot, but I figured that if no one here knows anything about him, he may not actualy exist!
BTW, the CD title is "Gregg Harrs, Acoustic".
The entire disk's music is top drawer stuff.
Thanx in advance, Rich

I assume that it's the same Greg Harris who worked with the Flying Burrito Brothers in around 1979-1981.

Harris was in some Californian act.. Battau & Harris or something like that and they had an album out in the late 1970s.
Greg played various acoustic instruments and the bass, in 1978 his act played the Pal'where he met the Flying Burrito Brothers, who hired him on in '79..or maybe 1978.

Harris got to play on some FBBs material, some Burrito Brothers sides, Sneaky Pete's solo album on Shiloh in 1979.
Anyway, he's cut solo material, he was on sierra records for an album, which may be what you're referring to.
Harris was invloved in some Sneaky Pete-Burrito spin-off activity in the 1980s, and I think he was in the mid 1980s version of the 'Flying Brothers' led by Sneaky Pete, and he might have been on a Byrds tribute deal in the 1980s.
I'd have to dig around to be sure, but I think that's the guy.

Rich, sorry..sometimes his name is spelt Gregg or Greg.
He must have joined the FBBs in 1978 as he is on their 1978 live album which was issued under a couple of different names over the years.
He played banjo, bass, mandolin and fiddle if memory serves me right.

Greg called me a couple of weeks ago to ask for Jay Dee's phone number. Business may be slow, but at least people are still calling me.
